Join in 5 Easy Steps
Join the MSOG Project

To start indexing:

  1. Go to https://familysearch.org/volunteer/indexing and click onto the "Getting Started" button to your computer to download the Family Search Indexing program.
  2. Click on the new Family Search Indexing desktop icon and follow the instructions to create a new Family Search account or to sign-in if you already have one.
  3. Click on the "Download Batch" button on the upper left.
  4. Scroll through the list and select "US Massachusetts " Boston Passenger Lists 1820-1891" and click "OK." (You may need to click on the "Show all projects" option.)
  5. Complete the fields for the record you download and click on the "Checkmarked Paper" icon, on the middle left, to Quality Check and Submit your completed work to the Family Search server.

Congratulations!

  • You indexed your first record.
  • Repeat steps 2-5 whenever you want to index a record.

Already Indexing
Want to Join the MSOG Project

If you are already indexing and want to join the MSOG project all you have to do to link your account to the MSOG project.

  1. Go to indexing.familysearch.org and click on "Sign In" in the upper right corner and sign in to your account.
  2. Click on "My Info" in the upper right corner and then click on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the page.
  3. Using the dropdown menu under "Local Support Level" choose "Group or Society."
  4. Using the dropdown menu under "Group" scroll down and choose "Massachusetts Society of Genealogist"
  5. Click "Save" and you are now linked to MSOG.

Helpful Tips

  • Use the "Field Help" or "Project Instructions" tabs for more information about the Boston Lists record.
  • Use the "Feather-pen/link well" icon for help with reading handwriting
  • To return a batch you do not want to complete. Just click on the back arrow, on the upper left, to return to the start page and click on the "Return Batch" button.
