Please join us on Saturday, March 3rd at 10am in the Saxe Room of the Worcester Public Library for our next monthly meeting. The morning will begin with a short business meeting followed by a special presentation, “Women’s Work: Grandma Ran a Boarding House and Momma Brewed Beer.”
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Charlene Key Sokal, M.S.L.S. is the former supervisor of the Worcester Public Library Local History, Genealogy, and Periodicals Department. She is a member of MSOG, APG, NEAPG, NYGBS, and JGSGB. We often make assumptions that all of our female ancestors stayed at home, producing children, raising vegetables and chickens. In fact many of these women had many other skills and businesses. In fact, many women ran their own businesses and worked in mills, factories or offices. This presentation will suggest resources to find information on these women and their various occupations.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in this presentation. Attendees are encouraged to bring along a friend(s), as well as your own non-alcoholic beverage, munchies will be provided. Anyone bringing goodies to share will receive an extra door prize ticket. Membership is encouraged for anyone pursuing the hobby, passion, or profession of Genealogy. Yearly membership is only $25.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a family living in the same household.
Please note that the winter hours of the Worcester Chapter is on the first Saturday for the months of December through April.
Parking isn’t allowed in the “green” areas (farther from the door). Make note of your space number and pay for parking at the outdoor kiosk (cash or credit cards accepted) BEFORE entering the library.
